In 1965 Houston, Texas, the world’s first domed stadium, the Astrodome, was built and the first generation of synthetic grass was born—AstroTurf. In the late 70’s, the second generation came along, more closely mocking natural grass. In the 1990’s scientific & technological advances lead to a third, and current generation of synthetic turf that has rapidly moved the industry beyond the athletic field to residential and commercial landscaping. This trend is driven by dramatic improvement in quality and variety of synthetic grasses available and cities and water conservation organization realization of the value of artificial grass as a conservation measure.
